The active geology of Iceland inspired this body of work: getting close to a newly created lava field; seeing the impact on the landscape and the complexities of textures, layers and forms; as the lava flows, cools down and solidifies, it feels powerful yet fragile. The rocks that we think of as stable and solid are actually always in flux, in movement, transforming, albeit sometimes over very long periods of time, due to earth processes such as weathering, erosion, compression, melting and cooling. With these glass Sandcast rocks merged together with lava I wanted to fuse between the 2 materials, combine that feeling of movement and solid state all in one piece.
