Honey! I Shrunk the Exhibition!

Honey! I Shrunk the Exhibition!

April 29th - May 3rd, 2023 | Edinburgh, UK

This year’s spring exhibition wants to create a salon style hang/exhibition in a white cube gallery. The term ‘salon style’ derives from the regular exhibition of the French Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, which began in 1667 in Paris. It showed the artwork of students of the Academy, so in order to fit everything in, the paintings were hung as close as possible from floor to ceiling.

By exhibiting works in this way we hope to reclaim the traditional display style and use it to our advantage to be inclusive and show the diverse work of our members. To show as many works as possible we implemented a size limit of 30x30cm, encouraging small-size sculptures and paintings, prints, photographs, sketches, and more.

The Gallery Society’s aim is to create a contemporary student art community within Edinburgh and the University. They provide a platform for Edinburgh students and beyond, to exhibit their work in a professional art environment, bridging the gap between student and professional artistic practice. ‘Honey! I Shrunk the Exhibition!’ is an opportunity for visitors to witness the works of upcoming and talented artists represented by the society.
