Her' is a reconstruction of Johannes Vermeer's 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' (1665). This piece differs to the original by incorporating a portrait of a black woman, who wears clothes symbolic to bright African patterns and a headscarf to match. The brush stroked and details become more focused towards the middle where the face of the woman is. The purpose was to showcase black people and their history being in viewpoint. As the past year has highlighted the importance of unveiling black history, reimagining an importance historical art piece highlights the uncovering of history.
